StoryMi Documentary Film Fellowship

In six months, six young Nigerian filmmakers were trained and mentored in the art and science of documentary filmmaking. As part of the curriculum, our instructors; Mayeni Jones and Louïse Monlaũ actively coached the fellows in the production of their short films from the opening workshop to the intensive closing workshop.

The objectives of the program included:

~ Encouraging quality documentary production in Nigeria

~ Helping young Nigerian directors & journalists make a living from their profession and;

~ Promoting exchanges between French and Nigerian directors/producers.

In July 2023, the six films produced by these fellows were screened for the first time in the city of Lagos to a full auditorium of film enthusiasts, producers and well wishers. These films have since gone on to screen at numerous regional and international film festivals including the Zuma Film Festival, Vancouver Black Independent Film Festival and the FIPADOC International Documentary Film Festival with some clinching awards.

To say that my experience at Storymi Academy was great, would be an understatement!

The documentary program has broadened my perspective and horizons on how to make a good film to meet the International standards and market! It has given me the ability to  feel confident in myself and work! It has exposed me to greater opportunities! I’m more proud of my career as an independent filmmaker.
